James M. Beidler is interim executive director for Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. He’s authored four commercially published books—including three on German genealogy— writes “Roots & Branches,” a weekly newspaper column/blog, is a German Life magazine columnist, and editor emeritus of Der Kurier, the quarterly journal of the Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society.
James M. Beidler, known internationally as one of the top people in the field of German genealogy, is interim executive director for Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, and a former reports editor for the globe-spanning research-for-hire firm Legacy Tree Genealogists.
He has authored four commercially published books, including three on German family history (The Family Tree German Genealogy Guide, Trace Your German Roots Online, and The Family Tree Historical Atlas of Germany) as well as The Family Tree Historical Newspapers Guide, all of which can be ordered through his website, www.jamesmbeidler.com.

Beidler was born in Reading, PA, and raised in nearby Berks County, where he currently resides. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY, with a BA in political science in 1982.
